In March 2017 the Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) held their annual awards night in Station Hall. Nominees from across the central and north regions of the country came together for a glorious night celebrating excellence in internal communication.
The organisers fully embraced everything railway-related. From the name of the awards to the straplines and hashtags they used, their entire event concept celebrated the unique location they had chosen for this record-breaking awards night.
Guests were welcomed with a sparkling drinks reception on the Royal Platform next to Queen Victoria’s carriage—often referred to as her ‘palace on wheels’. This softly-lit area of the museum is beguilingly atmospheric at night.
The guests progressed to their tables as dinner and the awards ceremony got underway.
The organisers had picked a sumptuous three course menu: Yorkshire pudding with sticky pulled beef and Black Sheep Ale and a main of corn fed chicken supreme with a chorizo and sage mousse, borlotti beans, slow roasted plum tomatoes and dauphinoise potatoes. Dessert was a Yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake with rhubarb jelly and parkin crumbs, followed by coffee and homemade fudge.
The food was served by our in-house catering partner Levy UK, and each course was interspersed with award-winner announcements.
More than seventeen awards were handed out by the evening’s compère Mike Ramsden, including ‘Best Campaign’ for Secret Cinema: Phoenix Group by Words & Pictures and Phoenix Group, and ‘Best In-House Team of The Year’ to SNC Lavalin Rail and Transit Team.
To close out a memorable event, guests celebrated their success by dancing the night away among the carriages and locos.
